I only stopped at Ho Chin Min City, which was formerly known as Saigon. It was a good experience. It's nothing like Malaysia. Roads there are filled with motorcycles, hundreds of them. That is their main form of transportation anyway.
Ho Chin Min City, formerly known as Saigon. Most of the places there still retain the Saigon name.
A sight you don't get to see anywhere but in Vietnam! Motorcycles everywhere. They like to "Pin!Pin!"- horn. First i was kindda annoyed thinking what is up with all the horns! Later i was told that's just how they roll it there. hahaha. So they're not actually mad at you.
Another sight you dont get to see anywhere else but here! What if blackout happens? Hmm..
What did we do there? We visited the Handicapped Handcraft Factory where they make sorta like pottery / vase and pictures with decorations made of egg shells and sea shells. It's really pretty and by observing how they make them, it takes a lot of patient and very time consuming. One decoration takes minimum 2 months to be completed.
At the Handicapped Handcraft Factory. It is quite expensive there but quality is guaranteed. If you want much cheaper you should try to find it at Ben Tham Market. Seriously cheaper. Things is Vietnam ARE cheap.
Then we went for a short tour in the city.
The post office was located in a historical building.
inside the building...
Cityhall
I didnt get the chance to take pictures in Ben Tham Market because my friends and i are just exhaustingly tired. There is day and night market. You should check out the indoor market which closes at about 6 pm. You'll be surprise on how cheap and bautiful the kain2 they sell there. There is a night market, but no kain sold there. I bought kain for my parents and my two sisters. For myself i bought a traditional vietnamese custume because i saw the stewardess at the airport wore it, and it looks really pretty. One more interesting fact-there in Vietnam, they can sew your clothes and it'll be ready in less than 24 hours. They'll send it right to your room even in 2 am in the morning.
* Tips: Buy in dollar! They also accept malaysian ringgit in case you run out of Dong or USD.
To say that my experience there was beneficial but it didn't impress me because at the first impression it was already ruin at the airport. Imigration service there wasn't so nice to us. At one point they looked at us like we were criminals, like we did something wrong. That's not the way to treat a tourist! But maybe we got unlucky by that one guy who probably had some sort of bad day or something. Still...
Then at Ben Tham market Lyn was almost threaten to buy at this one particular shop. Yikes! Despite that, i chatted with some lady who sells kain in Ben Tham market and they were nice. One in particular which i spend about 1/2 hour talking told me about her life. How she worked 16 hours a day with no day off. And her paycheck was very little. She said people here worked very hard but the pay is very little, and work is very limited there in Vietnam. Then she told me how much she loves perfume but she can only afford to buy the fake ones, but there in Vietnam it is still expensive. Her sister work in Australia sometimes buys for her the original ones and she said that makes her happy. She talks highly about Malaysia, she said it must be very beautiful there and she wanted to go there but can't afford it. At the point, i'm so thankful i live in Malaysia. My Malaysia is a great country to live in!
My Vietnamese tour guide
Okay, there you have it. This trip made me realize how much i love Malaysia and i really cant wait to go back home when i was there. Yes, Malaysia no doubt has the best airport and Malaysian people are definitly one of the nicest people in this world. We are by far much more considerate and well mannered.
Salam satu Malaysia!
